The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal philanthropic organization founded in 1881 by Michael McGivney, a Catholic Priest. Today, the Knights of Columbus is “the largest Catholic family service organization in the world”. Members are male, over eighteen years old and accept the Catholic Church’s authority on moral and religious affairs. Knights of Columbus are not formal knights. They do not hold the title of Knight of the British Empire and do not carry the official title of “Sir” before their name. Knights of Columbus are regular people who live by a dedication to family, church, and community.
